Losing a tooth can be a devastating experience especially if it is located in the smile zone. It can be very embarrassing and make you hide your smile. If it is a back tooth it can also be very upsetting. Often one can’t enjoy ones food properly. Did you realise that by not replacing the missing tooth it can detrimentally affect all your teeth.
You can so easily put a new tooth in by placing a dental implant. Let me answer some questions you may have about this amazing procedure.
What is a dental implant?
It’s an artificial tooth placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth. It can look and feel just like your natural tooth.
How long do they last?
Under the right conditions an implant can last for many years. For example in our practice we have placed and restored many hundreds over the past 17 years and have a failure rate at this time of less than 3%. When you come and see us we will be able to examine you and tell you whether your mouth is a suitable candidate for implants.
Does it hurt?
We like to think that the treatment we carry out never hurts. Not with standing very occasionally there may be some swelling and bruising depending upon the complexity after the procedure. If you are nervous we can arrange for you to have sedation.

Porcelain Crowns

When the size of a filling exceeds a certain proportion of the tooth, the filling must be replaced with a crown. Porcelain crowns look, amazingly natural.
Dental crowns are restorations that protect damaged, cracked or broken down teeth. A crown strengthens your damaged tooth so as to preserve its functionality. Dental crowns are also commonly known as caps (because a crown sits over your existing tooth covering the entire outer surface). Crowns can be all gold, or with porcelain bonded on top of the gold. These are still the strongest and by the way look just like your natural tooth.
The most modern crowns now use materials like zirconia which are white in colour and almost as durable as the porcelain fused to gold variety. There js a drawback however as these often require more tooth substance to be removed to make room for the crown. The advantage is that the appearance is, well, there is only one word for it and that is – WOW!!!!!!!!!

Are you concerned about the state or colour of your old metal fillings and are looking to replace them with something tooth coloured? You may even be concerned about the mercury content within silver fillings!
Of course we will always give our patients a full choice of having metal fillings or composite white fillings or even longer lasting white ceramic inlays. We will discuss the risks and benefits of each.
But remember tooth coloured fillings bond biologically to the tooth tissue strengthening the walls and they give you back your natural smile.
We think you ought to be informed that white fillings whilst looking great are actually much more difficult and time consuming to place well. Dr Sidelsky lectures widely throughout the country on this very subject showing general practitioners how to achieve an excellent result.

No cutting of your natural tooth
Imagine repairing the broken edges of your teeth, altering their size and shape, closing gaps – all in one visit and often without cutting your natural tooth! This process is often more economical and less invasive than porcelain veneer. It involves gluing on tooth coloured composite resin which is indiscernible once in place.
- Book yourself in for a consultation and we will analyse your smile and make suggestions to you on how we can improve it.
- If you are happy with our suggestions we will take moulds of your teeth and place them on to a special instrument which will copy your jaw movements so we can make a dynamic analysis in the laboratory.
- Wax is added to the models along with any other adjustments and these are then presented to you in the office and transferred reversibly onto your mouth. Pictures are taken before and after and given to you to consider at you leisure at home Of course all costs will be outlined for you with the different alternatives.
- Once you are happy we book you in and use a special silicone index to bond on the tooth coloured resin composite so that it mimics the wax up.
- WOW!!!!!! Don’t you look great – you should have done that years ago!!!!!!!! And just remember its all done without damaging your tooth. In fact if you ever change your mind we can take it right off for you!!!!!!
